About the Journal

Open Veterinary Journal (OVJ) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the publication and dissemination of high-quality scholarly research across all areas of veterinary science and animal health.

The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, short communications, case reports, and other scholarly contributions that provide scientifically sound and relevant advances in veterinary medicine and related disciplines.

OVJ covers a broad range of veterinary and animal health fields, including, but not limited to, veterinary medicine and surgery, veterinary microbiology, virology, parasitology, pathology, pharmacology, epidemiology, animal health, animal production, infectious and non-infectious diseases, One Health, laboratory animal science, wildlife and aquatic animal health, and other areas relevant to veterinary science.

Open Access

Open Veterinary Journal operates under a fully open-access publishing model. All published articles are freely available online immediately upon publication without subscription or access fees for readers.

Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), allowing appropriate non-commercial sharing and adaptation with proper attribution, subject to the terms of the license.

Peer Review

All manuscripts submitted to Open Veterinary Journal undergo an initial editorial assessment followed, where appropriate, by double-blind peer review. Manuscripts are evaluated by qualified and independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

The peer-review process is designed to assess the manuscript's scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, clarity, relevance to the journal's scope, and contribution to the field.

Editorial decisions are made independently on the basis of the scientific and ethical merits of the manuscript. The journal does not guarantee acceptance, a particular decision, or a specific publication timeframe.

Editorial Board

Open Veterinary Journal has an international Editorial Board comprising researchers, academics, veterinarians, and other specialists with expertise across diverse areas of veterinary science and animal health.

The Editorial Board supports the journal's commitment to maintaining rigorous peer review, scientific integrity, editorial independence, and high standards of scholarly publishing.

Article Processing Charges

To support the journal's editorial, peer-review, production, hosting, digital preservation, and publishing activities, Open Veterinary Journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of £450 (GBP) for each manuscript accepted for publication.

The APC is charged only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication. Payment of an APC does not influence editorial decisions, peer-review outcomes, or the scientific evaluation of manuscripts.

The journal's editorial decisions are made independently of authors' ability or willingness to pay publication charges.

Commitment to Research Integrity

Open Veterinary Journal is committed to maintaining high standards of research integrity and publication ethics. Manuscripts are evaluated in accordance with the journal's editorial, peer-review, publication ethics, research integrity, authorship, conflict-of-interest, animal welfare, data availability, and post-publication policies.

The journal uses appropriate editorial and screening procedures to identify potential plagiarism, duplicate publication, research-integrity concerns, and other forms of publication malpractice.
